World still grappling with epidemic of sinkholes: Chinese village suffers over 20 sinkholes in five months

January 14, 2013 - The land in a Chinese village is quite literally disappearing before the residents' eyes with large sinkholes swallowing up vast spaces.

In the past five months villagers from Lianyuan in southern China's Hunan Province have been left alarmed after seeing over 20 holes suddenly open up in the ground. From last September the cave-ins, which range in size, have seen houses collapse and rivers dry and left villagers terrified about where the next will be.

Disturbing new flyover videos of Louisiana sinkhole showed the amount of land collapsed has increased in size. Last measurements show that the surface of the sinkhole area was 5.5 acres, or equivalent of five football fields.  Based on John Boudreaux, director of Assumption Parish Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness stated that  the surface is now closer to the size of six football fields according to the Examiner. The sinkhole occurred early on August 3 in swampland between Bayou Corne and Grand Bayou.

The massive sinkhole plaguing south Louisiana continues to grow, as it has "eaten" another large section of land.

The Assumption Parish Police Jury reported the latest slough in on its blog Tuesday evening.

Sinkhole Size 5 Football Fields, Ground Breaking far from it

Crews continuing to move hydrocarbons from the breached cavern under the giant sinkhole in Assumption Parish Thursday morning spotted more than shocking chemicals. They also saw that the monstrous sinkhole had grown to 300,000 square feet, approximately the size of five football fields.

Dall'inizio di questa settimana circa 4000 metri quadrati sono stati letteralmente divorati da un mostro che non accenna a fermarsi.

Funzionari stanno operando per salvaguardare un vicino deposito di gas butano che rischia di essere inglobato dal sinkhole.


La comunita' di Bayou Corne teme che le autorita' stiano nascondendo la verita', e serpeggia tra le persone la paura visti gli alti tassi di radioattivia' registrati intorno alla voragine.

Officials reported another large section of land was swallowed up by the giant sinkhole in southeast Louisiana.

According to the Assumption Parish Police Jury, a chunk of land about 30 feet by 50 feet fell in on the southeast side of the sinkhole in Bayou Corne.


That's about the size of a small three bedroom house.

Many trees and even part of the road collapsed into the massive "slurry."

Officials said it happened near the area where crews with Texas Brine are working.
