Violentissima scossa di Terremoto M7.7 tra Alaska e Canada

Forte scossa avvenuta oggi 5 Gennaio 2013 in Alaska, nell'Oceano Pacifico. Magnitudo di 7.7.

Una fortissima scossa di terremoto è avvenuta poco fa, precisamente alle 09.58 italiane (corrispondenti alle 23.58 del 4 Gennaio 2013 locali), a pochi chilometri dalla costa meridionale dell'Alaska, dunque nel golfo d'Alaska, nell'Oceano Pacifico.

Una intensa scia verde avvistata nei cieli del sud Italia

Secondo numerosissime testimonianze una scia verde luminosa ha attraversato i cieli del sud Italia nella tarda serata del 3 Gennaio 2013.

L'evento è accaduto poco prima della mezzanotte, la maggior parte delle segnalazioni provengono dalla Calabria.

Eruzione sottomarina al largo delle coste occidentali turche

Una nuova eruzione vulcanica sottomarina al largo della costa occidentale della Turchia. Un fenomeno che pare avere avuto inizio recentemente nel Mar Marmaris tra la terraferma e l'isola greca di Simi vicino a Rodi.

Scienziati provenienti dalla Istanbul Technical University hanno annunciato di aver trovato le prove della presenza di 2 bocche attive a circa 200 metri di profondità sul fondo del mare.

A new submarine volcanic eruption might have recently started off Turkey's west coast in the Marmaris Sea between the mainland and the Greek Island of Simi near Rhodes. 

Scientists from Istanbul's Technical University announced that they have found evidence of 2 active vents at about 200 m water depth along a north-south trending fissure of 2.5-3 km length. Read more.

Volcanic activity world-wide: New submarine volcanic eruption off Turkey's coast suspected

A new submarine volcanic eruption might have recently started off Turkey's west coast in the Marmaris Sea between the mainland and the Greek Island of Simi near Rhodes.

Scientists from Istanbul's Technical University announced that they have found evidence of 2 active vents at about 200 m water depth along a north-south trending fissure of 2.5-3 km length. 

Volcanic activity world-wide: Activity update and field observation from the Stromboli volcano in Italy

Every 15-50 minutes, large lava bubbles exploded with loud detonations and ejected bright, liquid lava into all directions and reached heights of up to estimated 4-500 meters.

We visited Stromboli on 2 January and observed the following activity from about 8 vents in total (see image for location and naming of vents): The western crater produced tall, very noisy, straight candle-like strombolian fountains up to 300 m tall every 10-20 minutes from vent 2, lasting 5-20 seconds, often accompanied by ash-rich ejections from vent 1.

Scoperti e mappati giganteschi flussi di particelle cariche che si estendono per circa 50.000 anni luce.

Che il centro della Via Lattea, la nostra Galassia, fosse alquanto turbolento era ben noto da tempo. Ma non che da quelle zone fuoriuscissero giganteschi flussi di particelle cariche, veri e propri geyser spaziali. A scoprire e mappare questi flussi di materia è stato un gruppo di ricercatori guidati dall’italiano Ettore Carretti, ora in Australia, e a cui ha partecipato Sergio Poppi dell’INAF-Osservatorio Astronomico di Cagliari, grazie alle osservazioni del radio telescopio di 64 metri di diametro di Parkes in Australia.

Earthquakes and Volcanic eruptions have always been closely related. For instance, if you look at a map of quakes worldwide and compare it to a map of volcanoes, you’ll find that they match closely. 

Both earthquakes and volcanoes occur at the boundaries of tectonic plates, which make up the Earth’s surface. Earthquakes are caused by the release of pressure built up when the plates spread apart or move past each or under each other.
